What you’ll learn:

Core Foundations

  • Defining Coaching: Understand how coaching differs from counselling and mentoring by focusing on moving someone from where they are now to where they want to be.
  • Theoretical Underpinnings: Explore the concept of positive psychology and the optimistic view that every person has value and agency.
  • Constructivism: Learn how personal perspectives and unique lenses construct an individual's "reality".
  • Linguistics: Examine how the study of language and the specific words we choose impact our experiences and map our world.

Communication Skills

  • Verbal Tools: Develop the skill of "matching" a coachee’s lexicon to build empathy and shared understanding.
  • Active Listening: Understand that active listening is the primary tool for helping coachees achieve self-discovery.
  • Non-Verbal Communication: Learn to manage body language, facial expressions, and "therapeutic architecture" (the physical environment) to make clients feel secure.
  • Powerful Questioning: Master the use of open and closed questions, maintaining a target ratio of approximately 75% open questions to encourage deep reflection.

Coaching Models and Frameworks

  • The GROW Model: A deep dive into the most widely known framework: Goal, Reality, Options, and Will.
  • The CLEAR Model: Learn an alternative acronym-based structure that emphasises contracting and session review.
  • Solution Focused Coaching: Explore the OSKAR model and the use of "scaling" to help coachees identify small, measurable steps of progress.
  • Advanced Approaches: Introduction to Transformational Coaching (layered learning), the Inner Game model (managing self-talk), and Ontological Coaching (language, emotions, and body integration).

Community-Based Specialisms

  • Psycho-social Approach: Recognise how well-being is influenced by a blend of internal psychological factors and the external social environment.
  • Human and Social Capital: Learn to help coachees identify their internal strengths (human capital) and external support networks (social capital).
  • Key Meta-Themes: Working with the themes of Identity, Creativity, Resilience, and Reconciliation specifically within a community setting.

Professional Practice

  • Ethics: Study the Global Code of Ethics for coaching and its implications for integrity, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
  • Session Structure: Learn how to "contract" with clients to set ground rules and boundaries before coaching begins.
  • Self-Awareness: Develop into a "reflexive practitioner" by integrating your own life journey, values, and biases into a personal coaching style.

      THOROUGHLY RECOMMENDED

"I throughly enjoyed this course, it was interactive, engaging and fun while giving you all the tools to start a journey on becoming a life coach.
This isn’t a course that has no follow up and just teaches you then finished with you. Metanoeo provide group supervision, which is included in membership to the guild, and guidance when ever it is required as well as follow on courses and CPD events.
      Throughly recommended."
