This unit, comprising the first two-core modules for our award, will provide you with the opportunity to develop an introductory understanding of the principles and practices of life coaching.

During the first module you will explore the communication principles and structures essential to becoming a successful life coach. The second module will guide you through the fundamentals of life coaching as a discipline specifically exploring the GROW model and working out some of the practicalities.

On successful completion of the unit you will be ready to start applying the principles to undertaking some simple life coaching with your peers and others who require a basic level of coaching.

This peer coaching unit comprises:

  • Course introduction - Understanding coaching

Module 1: Communication Fundamentals for Coaching

  • Verbal communication
  • Non-verbal communication
  • Using powerful questions

Module 2: Coaching Fundamentals

  • Foundations for coaching
  • Exploring the GROW model
  • Session Structures
  • Practice and Ethics

  • Summarising peer coaching, opportunities for practice and development

Peer coaching assessment

Assessment for this unit is combined with the assessment of unit LC201, comprising the final two-core modules for our award, and takes the form of a 2,000 word assingment.

Who is the unit aimed at?

This unit is aimed at those starting their journey into life coaching others. This unit provides the mandatory foundation for all our life coach training.

Upon completion

After completing the unit, you will be able to:

  • Understand the concepts and thresholds for peer coaching.
  • Demonstrate the necessary skills and understanding in practice.
  • Appreciate the subtle differences between coaching, counselling and mentoring.
  • Critically apply the concepts to your own peer coaching practice.
